    Baking Essentials

No matter what I'm baking, these are the tools that I'm reaching for. From stand mixers to measuring cups, my kitchen doesn't feel complete without them.

Mint KitchenAid mixer on a countertop

    Stand Mixer

My KitchenAid stand mixer is by far my favorite kitchen gadget! I use it almost every day, whether it's for cooking, baking, or making ice cream from scratch.

    • Perfect for: most recipes
    • Tip: Consider buying this glass bowl for your KitchenAid mixer if you want to be able to throw it in the dishwasher.

Hand scooping flour into a metal measuring spoon

    Measuring Cups & Spoons

If you bake a lot, you definitely need a good set of measuring cups and spoons. Personally, I love stainless steel measuring cups and spoons because they're so durable. This set is great because it comes with so many sizes.

    • Perfect for: most recipes
    • Tip: I like having two sets of measuring cups and spoons! That way, I always have the size I need, even if some of them are in the dishwasher.

Bowl of turbinado sugar on top of an orange kitchen scale

    Digital Kitchen Scale

The most accurate way to measure ingredients is by weight, and that's why I always include weight measurements for all my recipes. And to measure by weight, you'll need a trustworthy kitchen scale like this one.

    Perfect for: most recipes

Tip: Place your container on the scale before you turn it on, and the scale will automatically subtract the weight of your container before you weigh anything out.

Pie dough next to a wooden rolling pin

    French Rolling Pin

A good rolling pin is essential for rolling out cookies, pie dough, bread, and more. French rolling pins don't have handles, and I like using them because the flat shape makes it easy to roll dough out to a consistent size.

    • Perfect for: cookies, pies
    • Tip: Rotate your dough as you're rolling it out to prevent it from sticking to your countertop.

    Pans

These are some of the pans I reach for most often when baking. There are so many different types of pans you can buy, but you should be able to make most baked goods with these options.

    Tray of Christmas sugar cookies

    Half Sheet Pan

A good sheet pan is crucial for baking, and I personally love using these metal half sheet pans! The lighter metal really helps your baked goods cook evenly.

    • Perfect for: cookies, macarons, scones
    • Tip: Buy two half sheet pans so you can bake multiple trays at once.

Muffin pan with blueberry muffin batter

    Muffin Pan

Another important option to have is a good muffin pan. I really like these 12-cup nonstick muffin pans from Wilton.

    • Perfect for: muffins, cupcakes
    • Tip: Be sure to always spray your muffin pan with nonstick cooking spray or line it with cupcake liners to allow for easy removal.

Spatula spreading brownie batter into a baking pan

    9x13 Pan

A good 9x13 pan works for so many recipes, including sheet cakes, brownies, bars, and more. I recommend opting for a lighter metal pan to help create an even bake.

    • Perfect for: cakes, bars and brownies
    • Tip: Be sure to always spray your pan with nonstick cooking spray or line it with parchment paper before baking.

    Helpful Tools

These are some tools that I use on a regular basis when baking. They're not essential, but they honestly make baking so much easier that they're worth every penny!
